DEIR YASSIN REMEMBERED
Deir Yassin Remembered seeks to build a memorial to the Deir Yassin massacre of April 9th 1948. Though not the only massacre, Deir Yassin signalled the flight of the Palestinian people, which led to their eventual dispossession, and has come to symbolise the Palestinian tragedy. But memorialisation of Deir Yassin is not just for Palestinians. Standing in clear sight of the Holocaust memorial at Yad Vashem, Deir Yassin speaks of all atrocity. It examines the relationship between perpetrator and victim, and asks, not only how the abused turns into an abuser, but how the abused can achieve justice without themselves turning into abusers.
