THE ELIJAH TRUST
The Elijah Trust exists to serve the Palestinian Arab citizens of Israel, and to raise awareness in the UK about this 'forgotten' 20% minority group. We have two main focuses for our support and partnership – the work and vision of Archbishop Abuna Elias Chacour, at the Mar Elias Educational Institution (MEEI) and within the Melkite diocese of Galilee; and Mossawa, the Advocacy Center for Arab Citizens of Israel based in Haifa. Arab Israelis need to experience equal opportunities and become self reliant. Education and advocacy are important keys to this. Mossawa's mission is to improve the social, economic and political status of Arab citizens of Israel, whilst preserving their national and cultural rights as Palestinians. The central ethos of MEEI is pluralism, reconciliation and a respect for diversity and differences whether cultural or religious. Unlike schools and colleges in the Jewish sector, there are no land grants or funding for equivalent Arab institutions in Israel. Financial support for MEEI is facilitated through Elijah Trust.
