PALCRAFTS / HADEEL
The aims of Palcrafts (UK) are to (a) promote cooperation with individuals and groups in the UK in organizing events of all kinds to heighten local appreciation of Palestinian culture and awareness of Palestinian issues; and (b) provide in the UK educational materials and goods from Palestinian producer groups, particularly those catering for people with special needs either physical or mental, and whose activities benefit the whole community. Hadeel (the cooing of a dove, Arabic) is a Fair Trade shop and importer, registered with BAFTS (British Association for Fair Trade Shops). Selling at its shop in Edinburgh and through a network of Local Reps, Fair Trade and Solidarity groups, as well as other shops and individuals by mail order, it fulfills the aims of its parent charity Palcrafts. Sales provide desperately needed income to some of the most marginalized of Palestinians: women in refugee camps, cooperatives, centres for those with special needs, etc. Our producer partners also say it gives them hope, something to do in the very confined lives they live, and helps to keep alive the incomparable Palestinian traditional crafts while developing new products for today's market.
