During the Christian Resources Exhibition (CRE) from 13th-16th May 2003, Rediscovering Palestine was pleased to welcome a large number of visitors to its spacious and welcoming stand in the Bendigo Bar.  Representatives of its member organisations (Our Members) were available at various times at the stand to answer questions, to discuss individual interests and to share their own experience of the ongoing situation in Palestine/Israel.

The Palestinian photographic and handicraft displays and the broad range of resources available (books, leaflets, folders, CD's etc.) attracted substantial interest and enabled us, as hoped, to successfully serve as a valuable point of access and reference to many visitors of different and diverse backgrounds, levels of awareness and perspective.

The highlight of the week came on Wednesday, 14th May 2003 with the unexpected visit to CRE of The Right Reverend Riah Abu El- Assal (second from the left in the picture), Anglican Bishop of Jerusalem.  Bishop Riah spent time at the stand meeting representatives of member organisations as well as visitors before joining in the first instance the audience at the Rediscovering Palestine sponsored concert entitled ‘Towards the Dawn' featuring Garth Hewitt and then addressing the audience at the concert.

LUNCHTIME CONCERT

Sponsored by

Garth Hewitt, well known singer/songwriter, director of Amos Trust , Creative Adviser to Christian Aid and our invited representative performed on the 14th May 2003 at 1:30 p.m. at the Main Foyer before an appreciative audience who responded well to his thought provoking and moving reflections and selection of songs about Palestine/Israel.

It was particularly poignant when Garth sang " Palestinians Are Human Too"  joined by the audience with the following chorus:

Palestinians are humans too

They weep and they bleed like me and like you

We can treat them like outcasts as so many do

But Palestinians are humans too.

Half-way during the concert, Garth invited Bishop Riah to the stage to address the audience.  He made a ten-minute address which included some of his personal concerns about the worsening situation in Palestine/Israel - his land called ‘Holy’.

It was encouraging to receive such a positive level of interest and support this year at the CRE and to be able to further extend our contact base through our newly launched website as well as our growing mailing list.

WE HOPE YOU SAW OUR STAND AT THE GREENBELT FESTIVAL IN AUGUST '03
